PLM-SCA 35th Anniversary

To all Student Catholic Action (SCA) members from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) or University of the City of Manila happy 35th founding anniversary!

PLM-SCA molded me to become a stronger person in battling the dreaded disease of cancer.

As a student in the 90s where internet was not yet available for everyone, the National Library in Kalaw and the Planetarium Library in Luneta were like an annex of PLM because of the number of students who visited the place.

Fellow PLMayer could be seen at the Intramuros walls with their photocopied books seriously studying their lecture notes and with a piece of Manila paper with pentel pen cramming for an oral report; boisterously laughing hard on silly jokes with the company of friends; and enjoying a date in the walled city.

The PLM student was a typical scholar who fought hard for good grades with a great appreciation in life’s simple pleasure but not so, of faith.

Maintaining a decent average or else you would be out of the scholarship program mentality pushed everyone to be always on their toes.

Though the PLM Chapel was available, I rarely saw students religiously attending the Holy Mass. It was more of like a tambayan venue than to learn more about the Catholic faith.

But, I was inspired by the good examples of the PLM-SCA leaders who served during the Holy Mass with the heart of a servant.

I saw passion, commitment and dedication of young people in loving God in the humblest way possible.

Their actions spoke more about who they are.

This blog is one of my simple ways of giving back inspired by the SCA principles of living a life for the Lord and for others.

“Let us not love with words and speech but with actions and in truth.”- 1 John 3:18

The PLM SCA will have a thanksgiving & celebration dinner on March 5, 2015 and I will be delivering a short inspiring message.

Below are some trivias about the Student Catholic Action of the Philippines (SCAP). This year, it will be the 80th anniversary of this inspiring Catholic institution.
